Council donates $750 to Soda Springs 14U softball team, agrees to coordinated park work

Alyssa Ayers, one of the team coaches, told the council the team includes about 12 players and that equipment needs include softball bags priced “about 84, $85 each,” which she said the team hopes to fundraise for. Ayers said parents had already paid tournament fees and that the team wanted to offer to repaint bleachers at Kelly Park as a team-building project.
Public Works and Parks Director Justin Hanson told the council staff could work with the team and suggested balancing new equipment needs with available park projects. A motion to donate $750 from city funds passed on voice vote; the council also directed parks staff to work with the team on the bleacher painting at the director’s direction.
Council members said they supported youth recreation and encouraged the team to coordinate details with parks staff before work begins.
