Mayor reports Ward 1 alderman resignation and Better Together meeting; city to draft resolution

Mayor Morath told the Fenton Planning and Zoning Commission on Feb. 4 that Alderman Ralph Cruts of Ward 1 has resigned and that city leaders are preparing to recommend a replacement and read a related newsletter update.
The mayor said Cruts resigned to spend more time on his health and praised his service, including his role as finance committee chairman. Morath said the city has interviewed Jimmy Lang, a Fenton native, as a candidate to fill the Ward 1 vacancy.
Morath and city staff also reported attending a Better Together meeting convened by state Rep. Ian Mackie about a proposed restructuring measure that would seek to change municipal boundaries across St. Louis County by statewide vote. “We have put together a resolution that we're going to read at the next Board of Aldermen meeting,” the mayor said and urged residents to monitor the issue.
Amy Stark, Community Development Director, and other officials who attended described the meeting as heavily attended and said there was little support for the proposal among local attendees. The mayor said the city administrator, Alderman Hules and Stark attended the meeting with him and that they will present a resolution to the Board of Aldermen for consideration at an upcoming meeting.
