Resident urges engineering approach to Old Town pavilion move to avoid costly utility relocation

FENTON, Mo. — During public comment May 5 Marlon Mackley, a longtime property owner in Old Town, urged the Park Board to pursue engineering options to move or floodproof the existing Old Town pavilion instead of paying to relocate nearby utilities.
Mackley said he had walked the site and believed the structure might be jacked up, cut and moved under the lines, or split and reassembled, and he suggested floodproofing the current location for restrooms so the pavilion could remain without costly utility moves. “If you develop a committee that wants to talk about this, by all means, holler at me. I’ll be glad to jump in,” he said.
Council and staff discussion at the meeting shows the city is still collecting information: staff said the moving company would return to reassess the pavilion and that Dan (staff) has been in weekly contact with the mover. Park Board members did not take formal action on the pavilion at the May 5 meeting; staff said the pavilion item remains in progress and will return under old business at a future meeting.
