Park board reopens public naming process after weak response to initial list

FENTON, Mo. — The Fenton Park Board voted May 5 to re-open public nominations for the new park’s name after members said the list circulated earlier produced few strong options.
At the meeting the board reviewed a long list of suggested names that had been submitted during the initial outreach. Several members said none of the proposed names resonated. One board member summed up the sentiment bluntly: “I don't like any of them.”
Board members discussed procedural options and agreed it would be better to solicit more nominations from the public rather than forward a weak slate to the Board of Aldermen. A motion to re-open the public naming process carried on a voice vote.
Staff will reissue the public call for submissions and return with a refreshed slate of candidate names for the board to review at a later meeting. No final name was selected at the May 5 meeting.
