North Aurora trustees approve Bruno’s Cheesecakes liquor license, Promenade 2 annexation and PUD amendment, and EEI lead-service-line plan update

The North Aurora Village Board on Feb. 17 approved several routine and development items, including a beer-and-wine liquor license for a downtown bakery, annexation and zoning approvals for the Promenade 2 project, and a professional services contract to update the village’s lead service line replacement program.

The board approved a consent agenda by roll call with all trustees voting yes.

Bruno’s Cheesecakes: The board approved a Class C liquor license (beer and wine only) for Bruno’s Cheesecakes at 17 South Linkaway. "Bruno's is requesting a class c liquor license, which is beer and wine only. They have never had liquor, in the nearly 9 years they've been open. They are not requesting video gaming at this time, but they would like to start selling liquor due to their patrons starting to request it with their food," said staff member Steve during the new-business presentation. Motion to approve carried on roll-call votes in favor.

Promenade 2 annexation and PUD amendment: Trustees voted to approve an annexation agreement and a planned-unit-development amendment for a project called Promenade 2. Planning staff described the project as a mirror image of an existing mixed-use building, with Cremacoffee occupying Lot 4 and conversion of the existing My Place hotel into senior living. "If you remember, 2 Committee of the Whole meetings ago, we had a petition, for the Promenade 2...the first item is the annexation agreement...and then the next item is the PUD," said Nathan, a planning staff member. Both motions passed on roll call with all recorded votes in favor.

Lead service line replacement plan update: The board approved a professional services agreement with Engineering Enterprises, Inc. (EEI) for $26,394 to update North Aurora’s lead service line replacement program and associated GIS. Staff said the village is required by the Illinois EPA to update the plan for 2025 and that the final plan will be due April 1, 2027. "Staff has recommended entering into the professional services agreement with EEI in the amount of $26,394," staff said. The motion passed by roll call.

Other business and administrative reports: Staff reported the community sign had been offline for one to two weeks and that replacement parts were expected this week. Public works staff also briefed trustees on salt inventory and the need to empty the current salt barn before construction of a new public works facility; staff said recent winters had reduced stored salt levels and that remaining salt will be relocated to allow demolition and construction.
