North Aurora board approves four contracts totaling $2,022,523.32

The Village Board of North Aurora on April 7, 2025 approved four contracts totaling $2,022,523.32 for building commissioning, rooftop HVAC replacement at the police department, a sanitary manhole installation on Alder Drive and the village's 2025 road program.

Board approval will let staff move forward with commissioning services for the new public works facility, replacement of multiple rooftop HVAC units at the police department, installation of a sanitary manhole on Alder Drive and repaving work on 15 streets comprising about 2.65 miles.

Staff recommended awarding commissioning services to CERX Solutions for $28,800; the work is budgeted in fiscal year 2025-26 and is not expected to start before June 1. A motion to approve passed (roll call: Trustee Gaitley, Trustee Lowery, Trustee Nejwetch and Trustee Christiansen voted yes; mover/second not specified in the record).

The board approved a contract for rooftop HVAC replacement at the police department to Oak Brook Mechanical Contractors for $175,850. Staff said the department currently has seven rooftop units, two heat exchangers and one air handler and that roughly $90,000 has been spent on repairs since 2021. Because of long lead times, staff plans to carry the work and additional funds into fiscal year 2025-26. The motion passed (roll call: Trustee Gaitley, Trustee Lowery, Trustee Nejwetch and Trustee Christiansen voted yes).

For sanitary work on Alder Drive the board awarded a $63,230 contract to Superior Excavating. Staff said the project installs a new sanitary manhole and repairs a trough on an existing structure to reduce grease and solids build-up and to improve future cleaning, televising and lining of the sewer. The item passed on roll call (Trustee Gaitley, Trustee Lowery, Trustee Nejwetch and Trustee Christiansen voted yes). The village had budgeted $150,000 for the work.

The board also awarded the 2025 road program contract to Geneve Construction for $1,754,643.32. The program covers 15 streets (about 2.65 miles) and includes pavement improvements for the Fox Metro lift station off Route 31; the Fox Metro portion was described as "a little over $53,000," which Fox Metro will reimburse. Staff said $1,800,000 was budgeted and funding will come from the MFT fund and the capital fund. The motion passed on roll call (Trustee Gaitley, Trustee Lowery, Trustee Nejwetch and Trustee Christiansen voted yes).

No recorded votes opposed these motions. Meeting minutes show each item brought as a staff recommendation followed by a single motion, a second and a roll-call vote with four trustees recorded as voting yes.

The board's administrative report noted the start of a multi-year shift of road program work from the east side of town to the west side, naming neighborhoods where work is expected in coming years. The meeting then adjourned and a committee-of-the-whole session was scheduled to begin shortly.
