Addison approves $24,000 change order to address saturated soils on Janice, Valerie and Maryland Terrace

The Village of Addison approved a $24,000 change order May 5 to the 2024 water main replacement and street resurfacing project for work on Janice Lane, Valerie Lane and Maryland Terrace.
Public Works presenter Mike said contractors and staff discovered heavily saturated soils beneath the pavement when the pavement was removed. Because a portion of the project lies in a flood plain, staff recommended installing 4-inch underdrains, a stone trench and a filter lining to connect drains to a nearby storm structure. Staff projected approximately 320 lineal feet of 4-inch drains at about $75 per lineal foot.
Mike said the underdrains will prevent premature pavement structural failure and reduce ongoing maintenance related to saturated soils. Trustees had no questions; the board approved the change order by roll call.
The change order increases the contract with John Neri Construction for the water-main/resurfacing project; staff characterized the work as investment to prevent future maintenance costs. No revised project timeline was stated in the meeting.
