Sherwood proclaims April 21–25 National Community Development Block Grant Week; council highlights senior center projects

The Sherwood City Council on April 15 proclaimed April 21–25, 2025 as National Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Week in recognition of local and federal programs that fund housing, public facilities and public services.
Councilor Young, who serves on the Washington County CDBG committee, described the program’s purpose and uses. She said the city has received $2,495,000 in CDBG funding to date and noted a recent $208,000 allocation used for siding and window replacement at the Sherwood Senior Center. Councilor Young said CDBG funds typically support rent and utility assistance, homelessness prevention and public facility projects such as senior center improvements.
Mayor Rosner read the proclamation into the record. The proclamation also noted the HOME Investment Partnerships program and said nationally more than one million affordable housing units have been completed with HOME funds. The council did not take a formal vote on the proclamation at the April 15 meeting beyond presentation of the document.
Councilors praised the program’s role in funding local projects and encouraged continued pursuit of grant opportunities.
