Bridge span move to close Highway 99 this weekend; Sherwood plans detours, extensive traffic control

City staff and police updated the committee on a planned bridge-span lift and roadway closure on Highway 99 scheduled for the coming weekend. The contractor will set the large span in place; the work requires closing Highway 99 at the project area beginning Friday night with a full closure during the lift and possible re-opening by early Monday morning if the operation proceeds without delay.
Staff described planned detours and traffic control: northbound traffic approaching Sherwood will be detoured at the Walgreens area and routed via Bellwort and other local streets; a public viewing area will be provided on the south side near the Woodhaven sign. City and contractor plans include concentrated flaggers, overtime patrols and coordination with ODOT; staff noted they have notified ODOT’s TripCheck system and media and will attempt to ensure GPS/navigation providers are updated with closure information.
City staff warned that the closure will create heavy backups and advised nonessential travel in the area be avoided during the closure window. The committee also noted the bridge project team will record time-lapse photos and drone footage of the operation and that some smaller bridge segments will be delivered separately with minimal closures.
No committee vote was required; staff confirmed logistics and coordination would continue through the city’s project team and ODOT.
