Commission lines up Sept. 3 stormwater program; staff to present stormwater master plan at council work session

Commissioners discussed a planned September education event and a near-term stormwater master plan update at city council.

A commission member said the Sept. 3 EcoEd presentation — titled “Stormwater Playgrounds” or project-clear — will be hosted at the PNC Pavilion in Brentwood Park. Brentwood Parks Director Eric Grundenfelder is scheduled to present alongside stormwater engineering lead Elise Bridal of Jacobs; the presenter indicated a social hour starting at 6 p.m. followed by presentations at 7 p.m. The commission said it is working to invite Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District (MSD) staff and the MSD project manager involved in adjacent wetland and boulevard projects. The commission asked Sanan (city staff) to represent the city and to speak about the stormwater master plan and phasing of work along Kirkham and other local projects.

Separately, commission members noted the city’s stormwater master plan update would be presented in the council work session the following day; they encouraged members and residents to watch or tune in. City staff described a large sanitary relief / MSD sanitary project that will require coordination on easements and traffic control and may trigger council votes on easement agreements in coming months.

Why it matters: The stormwater projects involve capital work along rights-of-way, coordination with MSD, potential council approvals for easements and public outreach; the September event is intended to show completed and in-progress regional and local stormwater solutions.

Follow-up Commissioners agreed to promote the Sept. 3 event, invite MSD and local project managers and incorporate the city’s stormwater master plan and project phasing into the program.
