Aldermen repeal city's standalone tree-preservation rule after planning commission recommendation

The Board of Aldermen voted to repeal section 94-11 of the Branson Municipal Code, the city's stand-alone tree-preservation section. Holly, planning staff, said the change is part of a regulatory "red tape" review and that tree protections are still enforced through the remaining landscape article, land-disturbance rules, stormwater BMPs and open-space requirements in Chapter 94.
Planning staff told the board the Planning Commission reviewed the proposal at its March 4 meeting and approved it unanimously; staff recommended adoption. Supporters said the repeal balances developers' needs and tree protections and reduces duplicative regulations, while still addressing trees within stormwater and land-disturbance controls.
After accepting the staff presentation and closing the public hearing, the board approved first and final readings (the board used a timing provision to perform a second read during the same meeting) and adopted the ordinance.
Ending: The repeal will remove §94-11 from the municipal code; staff said tree-related controls remain in other parts of the code and will continue to apply to development and land-disturbance projects.
