Public comment highlights Community Connect event and Wayne County Sheriff's outreach team

At the start of the March 3, 2025 Trenton City Council meeting, members of the public used the agenda-reserved public comment period to highlight an upcoming community event and a new law-enforcement outreach initiative.

Bonnie Forrest, identified as secretary of the Cultural Commission, told the council the commission and the city’s Parks and Recreation Department are sponsoring Community Connect on Saturday, May 10, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Westfield Center. Forrest said table space will be offered to social clubs, support groups and volunteer organizations so residents can learn about local groups and activities; she said a sign-up link is available on the Cultural Commission’s Facebook page and that the library and other locations will carry flyer information. “We’re hoping that our residents will take the opportunity to come out to the Westfield on May 10 and find a new way to connect with our community,” Forrest told the council.

Dawn Johnson said she represents Rafael Washington with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department and described a newly formed community engagement team for the downriver area. Johnson said she planned to visit Trenton’s police chief the following day to discuss ways the sheriff’s office could assist with quality-of-life issues and participate in local parades and festivities.
