Trenton OKs $25,688.64 in wastewater equipment purchases to restore pump capacity, replace worn roller

The Trenton City Council on March 3, 2025, approved purchases totaling $25,688.64 to repair and maintain equipment at the city’s wastewater treatment plant.
The council authorized spending $9,183 from capital improvement accounts to buy a replacement impeller for Van Horn pump number 3 after Detroit Pump, the vendor working on the rebuild, found the impeller “severely worn and pitted,” Wastewater Treatment Plant Superintendent Dennis Wilson reported. Wilson said a new impeller will restore the pump’s efficiency and rated capacity.
The council also approved a $16,505.64 purchase from Andritz, identified in the meeting as the sole-source manufacturer of the belt filter presses, for a 10-inch roller used in one of the plant’s presses. Wilson said each press has roughly 20 rollers and the worn roller can likely be rehabiitated once removed and kept as a backup.
Councilman Perugy asked whether the city should proactively inspect other pumps to avoid similar failures; Wilson said staff will budget to pull and inspect the remaining pumps in the upcoming budget cycle.
Both purchases were moved, supported and approved on the record. Funding for both will come from the city’s capital improvement accounts.
