Gautier resident urges police response after repeated mailbox and yard damage from speeding vehicles

At the March 18 Gautier City Council meeting, a resident said vehicles are repeatedly damaging mailboxes and crossing yards in a neighborhood near 1512 Kingfish Drive and urged the city to act to improve safety.
Resident Gracie McClendon told the council the incidents have continued for weeks and said drivers "are going way over the speed limit" — "40, 45, 50," she said — and that the problem threatens children who walk in the area. She and neighbors have discussed options with one another, including physical barriers.
Police and city staff responded during the meeting with a request that residents report incidents to dispatch so officers can document and respond. The Police Chief said nothing had been formally reported since Jan. 1 and asked neighbors to call dispatch when they witness dangerous driving; staff said they could consider adding enforcement or temporary signage if calls support action.
Council members connected the resident with relevant council representatives for the neighborhood and asked staff to follow up. The discussion was recorded as a citizen comment and resulted in staff direction to contact the resident and monitor reports; no formal council vote was taken on the matter.
