Resident tells council Sherwood Drive backyards are eroding; public works to follow up

At the May 5 meeting a Sherwood Drive resident told the council that stormwater runoff is eroding backyards and creating a hazardous ditch behind homes between Lexington and Perryville.
Jeter Owen, who identified herself as a Sherwood Drive resident, said her yard and neighboring yards are “just totally washing away” and that she had fallen in the washout. “We have little kids back there in that area on both sides of this big ditch,” Owen said, raising concerns about children, snakes and collapsing edges.
Owen said she had contacted the ward councilmember and received a site visit from Gary in Public Works. She said the Public Works director told her runoff originates from Lexington and that the city said there was little the city could do except remove fallen trees; Owen objected to inaction and asked whether neighbors could fill the ditch themselves.
The councilmember for the ward confirmed he would follow up and city staff said they had contact information for Owen and would meet with her after the meeting to inspect the site and discuss options. That follow-up was recorded as staff direction rather than a formal council action.
No formal motion or funding was made at the meeting; staff and the ward councilmember agreed to investigate the washout and to speak with Ms. Owen after adjournment.
