The City of Gautier City Council approved a 29.7-foot variance to the front-yard setback requirement for an accessory structure at 3556 Mackerel Drive, GPC 25-11-VAR, allowing the construction of a 24-by-24-foot carport over an existing concrete slab in front of the primary residence.
Planning Director Scott Anderson told the council the applicant, Paul Bradfield, submitted the variance request and that the application fee ($1.75, paid on Feb. 13, 2025) had been satisfied. Anderson explained the city's ordinance requires accessory structures to be behind the primary building line; the Planning Commission reviewed the request and recommended approval. The council may approve, approve with changes, or deny the variance; in this instance Councilman George moved approval and Councilman Galat seconded. When the council called the question, Councilman College responded “Aye” and the mayor declared the motion carried.
The variance will permit the applicant to construct (or retain) a 24-by-24 carport that would otherwise encroach on the front-yard setback under the R-3 mobile/manufactured-home residential zoning in that location. The Planning Commission's recommendation and the council's approval are recorded in the meeting minutes; no conditions beyond the variance approval were discussed in the transcript.
