The Gautier City Council voted to consider and approve abatement for 3616 Highway 90 after staff said the lot had been overgrown since 2024 and had generated several complaints. The council gave the property owner 30 days to work with planning staff to resolve the violations and said fines would be waived if the property were brought into compliance.
Planning staff said the property had multiple complaints for overgrown grass and, while some recent clearing had occurred, several areas remained overgrown. Staff said they would re‑inspect and work with the owner. A member of the public who identified herself as Beverly spoke from the podium and said neighboring parcels also appeared overgrown and asked that enforcement be evenhanded.
Councilman Gordon Goliath (Ward 3) moved to approve abatement for 3616 Highway 90 with a fine assessment provision of $1,500 or 50% of abatement cost, whichever is greater, but to give the owner 30 days to work with planning staff. Councilman Cameron George (Ward 1) seconded the motion. The motion passed; Councilman Elvin was recorded as the only dissenting vote.
Council members and staff said that if the owner cleans the property within the 30‑day period, the abatement action and related fine would be removed. Planning staff said they are willing to waive enforcement if the owner completes the work and demonstrates ongoing maintenance.
The council did not reference a named ordinance or statute during the discussion; enforcement will follow city code procedures for nuisance/overgrowth complaints.
