Council approves transportation planning grant agreement with Missouri commission

The Cape Girardeau City Council on May 5 approved the first reading of an ordinance (bill 25-58) authorizing the city manager to execute a consolidated transportation planning grant agreement with the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission.
City staff advised the council the plan had been approved unanimously by the SIMPLE board on April 16, 2025, and that the agreement transfers state funding to SIMPLE for transportation planning work this year. “This is a yearly ask,” staff said during the presentation.
There was no public comment. Council moved, seconded and approved bill 25-58 on first reading by voice vote. Staff said the agreement is part of the regular annual planning and funding cycle and did not present separate budgetary amendments at the meeting.
The city will continue to administer and coordinate the planning work through the SIMPLE board and the city manager under the terms of the state agreement.
