Council member Schwab announced a monthly cemetery cleanup this Saturday focused on the East Side near the African American Legacy Monument and asked for volunteers ahead of Memorial Day. He said the American Legion will place 386 flags in the cemetery on Memorial Day, placing them at sunrise and removing them at sunset.
Schwab said volunteers will stage on the far east side of Fairview and then walk to the cleanup area near Alexander, Donough and the Sonopolis; he also noted a military veteran’s funeral scheduled at 11:30 a.m. in the columbarium, at which he would perform a 21-gun salute.
The announcement was informational; no budgetary or policy actions were recorded. Council members confirmed scheduling for upcoming meetings around Memorial Day.
