City staff explained the parcel is a small excess lot created when a house was demolished and no longer meets minimum lot-size requirements for new construction. The purchaser is the resident whose home abuts the parcel; staff said the sale will reduce city maintenance obligations (mowing, sidewalk snow removal) and expand the resident’s yard.
Council members asked whether the parcel had other interested buyers and whether the footprint would change; staff replied the buyer already lived adjacent to the lot and the sale will not trigger new stormwater or footprint permitting because the buyer is not changing the lot size beyond private yard use. The motion to approve the sale carried with a voice vote.
Why it matters: disposing of small, nonconforming parcels can reduce municipal maintenance costs and convey underused land to adjacent property owners.
