Wayne Public Library rolls out mobile app; city opens public survey with DIA for mural

The Wayne Public Library launched a new mobile app and the city has opened a public survey, in partnership with the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA), to gather input on a planned mural for Gaudi Park.
Library Director Jody Wallach said the app, listed in app stores as "Wayne Public Library MI," includes features such as a digital barcode for library cards, account access, holds and due dates, links to downloadable services (Hoopla and Libby), and an ISBN barcode scanner to place holds while browsing books. “The app is really cool,” Wallach said, adding that “it’ll give you your digital barcode. So you always have your library card with you.” She asked for public feedback as the app is new.
Community Development Director Lori Goen said the city received a "Partners in Public Art" award from the Detroit Institute of Arts to support a mural at Gaudi Park. The city posted a three-question survey (themes to incorporate, additional comments, and whether the respondent is a city resident) on the home page of the city website; Goen encouraged residents to use the QR code in the Wayne Dispatch or the city website to respond. City staff said the mural will contribute to the DDA’s goal of installing public art in 2025 and will help activate the park entrance.
Both staff members encouraged public participation; no council action was required.
Separately during administrative reports the clerk reminded residents that dog licenses are due; fees rise after March 1.
