Currituck approves two sole-source procurements: Percy meters and Glidescope Go video laryngoscope

Currituck County commissioners on Monday approved two sole-source procurement resolutions: one authorizing the purchase of Percy meters from Waterworks Metrology LLC for the Southern Outer Banks water system, and another authorizing purchase of Glidescope Go video laryngoscopes and related supplies from Verathon Inc.

County staff told the board the Percy meters are required for proper functioning of the County Southern Outer Banks water system and are full replacement meters compatible with the existing system; the packet cites General Statute 143-129(e)(6) as the basis for a sole-source exception.

On the Glidescope Go purchase, staff said the county’s current McGrath scope used by fire and EMS has reached end of life and that the Glidescope Go is the sole and exclusive manufacturer of the product the county needs. Staff added that new standards for drug-assisted and rapid-sequence intubation pilot programs require the recording of procedures for quality-assurance and quality-improvement purposes; the Glidescope Go is a video laryngoscope used for intubation.

Both resolutions were moved, seconded and approved by the board. Commissioners emphasized that the sole-source process is a statutory exception to normal procurement and that staff had certified a single-source need.
