Trenton council approves appointments, dues, public-safety agreements and equipment purchases; disbursements cleared

The Trenton City Council on Feb. 3 handled a slate of routine municipal items, including appointments to the downtown development authority, membership dues, equipment purchases and interlocal agreements. Most motions passed without recorded opposition; one appointment vote recorded an abstention.
Appointments and membership dues: Mayor Rezeppa requested approval of Lance Lachowicz and Shelby Martigan for the Downtown Development Authority with terms expiring Feb. 1, 2028; the clerk called the roll and the motion carried after Mayor Rezeppa recorded an abstention. The council also approved the 2025 SEMCOG (Southeast Michigan Council of Governments) membership dues of $2,881, with funding from account 101-101-958-000.
Equipment and purchases: The council authorized purchase of 611 trash carts from Schaefer Plastics for $33,562.50; the city controller later corrected a resident-purchase price on the record to $75 per cart (replacement carts provided at no cost). The council also approved the fire department’s request to purchase a 2025 Ford Maverick Hybrid under state-bid pricing from LaFontaine Ford of Lansing at $33,388, with a project not to exceed $39,000 including outfitting for lights and sirens.
Interlocal agreement and other approvals: A written interlocal agreement was approved allowing members of the 30th/3rd District Court team to qualify annually at the Trenton Police Department gun range. The council also approved the Girl Scout Troop 77919’s request to sell cookies door-to-door in Trenton on March 15 and March 22, 2025 under adult supervision and police direction.
Administrative items: Council authorized disbursements totaling $1,764,895.80 for Feb. 3; the council received and filed cultural commission minutes from Dec. 23, 2024; and council updated a number of delegate and alternate appointments to regional organizations. Motions were recorded as moved and supported, and most items were announced as “unanimously so ordered.”
