Trenton accepts $4,000 DTE tree-planting grant; approves $50,000 facade grant for West Jefferson building

The Trenton City Council on Jan. 6 approved two Downtown Development Authority items: acceptance of a $4,000 DTE Energy Foundation tree-planting reimbursement grant for Rotary Park and approval of a $50,000 business improvement façade reimbursement for an applicant at 2674 West Jefferson Avenue.
Trenton DDA director (Miss Pacino) said the DTE award is a reimbursement grant and that matching funds are already available as part of the Rotary Park project. "The city of Trenton was awarded the DTE Energy Foundation tree planting grant agreement for $4,000. This is a reimbursement grant. We have the matching funds, since it's going to the Rotary Park," Pacino said. Pacino also described the DDA's business improvement grant program, which reimburses 50% of eligible façade costs up to $50,000; the West Jefferson applicant passed the DDA committee and board review and requested the full $50,000.
Both items were moved, seconded and approved by the council; the transcript records the council's action as "unanimously so ordered." The façade approval is conditioned on the applicant completing the DDA's required steps for reimbursement.
