Trenton council approves $391,498 purchase of full-vacuum street sweeper

The Trenton City Council voted Jan. 6 to authorize the purchase of a 2025 Buecker V65 street sweeper for $391,498.
Kevin Sargent, the Department of Public Services director, said the city's current 2015 Elgin Whirlwind street sweeper has exceeded the typical eight-year municipal life in Michigan, requires frequent repairs and will be retained as a backup if the new machine is purchased. "We requested quotes and demos from multiple sweeper manufacturers. Emtek provided the lowest quote on the style of sweeper we were looking for. Therefore, I'm requesting authorization to purchase this 2025 Buecker V65 street sweeper in the amount of $391,498," Sargent said.
Councilman Kebowaten asked whether the city considered different styles; Sargent explained there are two main types: regenerative air (cheaper but less effective on crowned roads) and full-vacuum units, and said the city selected the full-vacuum unit because it picks up debris at the curb more effectively. Councilmembers moved and seconded the purchase; the motion was recorded as "unanimously so ordered."
