Jefferson City public works staff presented a plan on May 7 to replace an undersized pump station and a leaking, too-small force main in the Westview Heights subdivision and asked the City Council to proceed with the steps required to secure low-interest financing from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources’ State Revolving Loan Fund (SRF).
Public Works Director Kyle Bremer and Eric Seaman, wastewater division director, told the council the existing pump station is both an employee safety problem and an environmental compliance risk after repeated overflows during heavy rain. Seaman described the current facility as outdated and unsafe and said the replacement would increase pumping capacity from about 1,400 gallons per minute to 2,500 gallons per minute and add roughly 75,000 gallons of emergency storage.
The project team estimated about $7,000,000 in construction costs and a total project budget of approximately $8,500,000. Staff said the SRF would be an attractive financing source — “around 2%,” and cited a…
