Council approves Juneteenth permit for Delta Circles; nonprofit reports strong STEM camp results and new programming

The council granted a permit for Delta Circles to hold a Juneteenth celebration on June 21, 2025, at the Eliza Miller Opportunity Hub, 106 Miller Loop, West Helena. Patricia Shanti, founder and CEO of Delta Circles, and Nonia Shanti, the organization's agriculture and innovation coordinator, presented the event plan and community programming.
Nonia Shanti told the council the Juneteenth event will run June 21 from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., with live music, vendors, food trucks and children's activities; she provided a phone number for vendor inquiries (870-995-3918). The council unanimously approved the permit.
Delta Circles also updated the council on recent youth programs. The group reported a 12-week STEM camp in which roughly 100 students improved from assessed scores in the 30% range to scores near 90% at program end; the presentation said one national platform rated the students as performing at a gifted-and-talented level. Delta Circles said two student coding teams are ranked nationally (seventh/eighth-grade team 4th of 17; fifth/sixth-grade team 2nd of 32). The nonprofit also described a hydroponics farm at its facility, a monthly entrepreneur networking event, a farmers market and an upcoming 3D-printing lab.
Council members thanked the nonprofit for programming aimed at youth and entrepreneurship and approved the event permit by motion and roll call.
