Helena — The Helena City Council on Wednesday adopted a resolution authorizing the mayor to permit staff to research and apply for grants from the Arkansas Natural Resources Commission to fund drinking water, wastewater and stormwater revitalization and development projects.
The resolution specifically referenced the Arkansas Natural Resources Commission (ANRC) Clean Water Development projects listed in the packet, including project number 24‑16 (water system rehabilitation) and project number 24‑065 (citywide water restoration). Miss Mills, a staff member who addressed the council, said the resolution would allow her to research and submit applications on behalf of the mayor and the city in the same way the city previously pursued clean drinking water funding.
A councilor moved to adopt the resolution; on roll call the measure passed with six affirmative votes. The resolution notes that the cost of grant administration would be payable from funds received and would be included in any awarded grant amount.
The council asked staff to proceed and return with application materials as they become available.
