Board members discussed whether the Elko County Television District should change its name and mission to better reflect its current work providing communications sites for public‑safety agencies and other partners.
Several board members said the “TV District” name narrows public perception and may prompt county officials to question the district’s mission and funding. Suggestions included “Elko Communications District,” “ELCO Communications District,” or “Elko Emergency Communications District.” The board asked staff to research statutory requirements and to consult the district’s attorney about whether a name change and mission expansion are feasible.
Members said the change could improve outreach to county and city leaders and make it easier to form formal partnerships for funding and joint projects. The board discussed using outreach, a mission statement and participation in community events to improve public understanding of the district’s work.
No formal action was taken; the board asked staff to add the item to a future agenda and research statutes and process to change the district’s name and mission.
