Senate Finance advances three Limited Gaming Control Commission nominees

The Senate Finance Committee advanced three nominees for the Colorado Limited Gaming Control Commission to the full Senate with favorable recommendations.

Kirsten Gregg of the Division of Gaming introduced Ahilya (listed in the transcript as Ahilya/Ahilya) George, Kevin Hyland and Phil Workman, noting each had served on the commission for months and describing their respective backgrounds in marketing and financial services, law enforcement and government affairs. "Over the past 8 months, I've really appreciated what I've learned about gaming in Colorado," George told the committee, adding she was "impressed that there are measures to promote responsible gaming."

Hyland described his background as a certified public accountant and former Colorado Bureau of Investigation agent assigned to the CBI gaming unit; Workman summarized his experience in Denver city government and in land use and business development. Committee members asked a question about enforcement of illegal gambling arcades; Hyland and Kirsten Gregg described a grant program awarded to help local law enforcement investigate and prosecute illegal machines and operators and noted that the Division has issued cease-and-desist letters and provided investigative guidance.

Vice Chair Merchant moved to advance the nominations of Ahilya George, Kevin Hyland and Phil Workman to the full Senate with a favorable recommendation. A roll-call vote passed (committee recorded unanimous support), and the committee placed the nominations on the consent calendar.

No amendments or conditions were placed on the nominations; the nominees will go to the full Senate as part of the consent calendar.
