Local rock club urges city to adopt temporary banner permit for special events; council directs staff to study

At the public comment portion of the May 6 meeting, Gary Bowles, a board member of the Mohave County Gemstoners, asked the council to adopt a simple permitting process for temporary event banners on private property to prevent an unsightly proliferation of unregulated signs.
Bowles described a template application that would list the applicant, event location and dates, contact person, sign locations with property-owner permission lines, and a defined display window (signs may be placed two weeks before an event and must be removed within 48 hours after the event). He said the approach would enable fair, consistent advertising for many community events and offered club volunteers to serve on a city committee to help design the permit process.
Mayor thanked Bowles and said the council would direct the city manager to look into the matter; no formal action was taken at the meeting.
