District arts programs win awards; student ensembles and teachers honored before board

District staff and teachers presented a district‑wide arts update to the board on May 20, highlighting honors, student ensembles and community events across art, music and theater.
Janae (presenter) told the board that Saint Vrain was named a Best Community for Music Education by the NAMM Foundation for the fifth consecutive year and that the district had multiple All‑State and CMEA selections. She said the district’s art show featured more than 10,000 pieces of student work and more than 396 blue ribbons were awarded.
Monica Smiley and Danielle Christman described student ensembles that earned spots at the Colorado Music Educators Association conference, and Smiley noted that at Erie Middle School this year 78% of students participated in a year‑long music ensemble and that district enrollment for the ensemble program is projected to be 86% next year. Prairie Ridge general music teacher Kathy Keller recounted the Soaring Singers’ CMEA experience and thanked district staff and parents for support.
Erie High’s auditioned a cappella jazz choir 51 30 performed "Sir Duke" for the board; student Dean Curtis introduced the group. Multiple board members praised teachers and the communications team, and the board recognized the hours teachers spend outside the school day in developing arts programs. Presenters thanked Janae Byrd and Chase McBride for their district support of the performing and visual arts.
