Bonanza residents ask district to help pave school parking lot to enable sidewalks and safer drop-off

Trichell said the school parking area is gravel, unlined and lacks marked parking spaces, leading to chaotic vehicle patterns, three‑deep parking in places, and safety risks as young children move across the lot. She told the board the Safe Routes group has prepared recommendations (a condensed version was shared at the meeting) and requested district involvement in final design and in identifying funding — either district funds or assistance applying for applicable grants.
Board members responded that the project would require coordination with multiple agencies (county and state traffic/engineering, transportation and safety staff) and that the district has an existing process for designing traffic patterns that includes transportation staff and safety officers to ensure buses can access sites. One board member suggested contacting Jordan and Jessica (members of the Safe Routes committee) and confirmed the board can work with the town and county on design and funding options.
Trichell said Bonanza is willing to pursue grants for its portion of the work but was concerned that paving must happen before sidewalks can be placed, and she asked whether district support could speed the timeline.
The board did not take formal action at the meeting but acknowledged the request and invited staff to coordinate with Bonanza representatives and the county on next steps.
