City staff told the Planning and Zoning Commission on March 19 that the Lake Havasu City Council on March 11 approved a general-plan amendment and rezones for two retail-center projects and sustained the commission's recommendation not to grant an exception to exterior materials for one of the projects. Staff also said the council approved a rezone associated with a second retail-center proposal.
Staff announced that the formal kickoff for the city's new general plan is scheduled for April 8. At that time the consultant team and city staff will present a public-participation plan to the City Council; that plan, if approved by council, will guide public involvement in the general-plan update process that staff said the city hopes to have on the ballot in 2026.
The announcement was informational; no formal action on the general plan occurred at the Planning and Zoning Commission meeting. Staff encouraged commissioners and the public to engage with the public-participation plan once it is released.
