Public Works recommended awarding the Wegler temporary bridge contract (to replace older flat rack bridges on Barber Road) to FarLine Bridge Inc. after receiving five responsive bids; the low bid was $69,380. Engineering Project Manager Brian Ollie told commissioners the county will reuse four 60‑foot concrete beams previously staged from another road project, describing the effort as a cost‑effective reuse of county bridge inventory.
The board also approved a notice of intent to award a prevailing‑wage construction contract for a 190‑foot mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) retaining wall on East Creek Road to address a recurring slide first damaged in the federally declared 2015 storm. Public Works recommended Lyda Excavating Inc. as the low bidder at $898,190. Ollie said FEMA will reimburse approximately 75% of East Creek Road project costs.
Both notices of intent will move forward to final contract award following the close of the applicable protest periods; the board voted to proceed.
