County joins expanded Chinook Library System IGA to share integrated catalog and loans across coast libraries

Tillamook County commissioners voted Jan. 15 to approve an intergovernmental agreement establishing the Chinook Library System, which will use the Koha integrated library system to share catalogs and loans among participating public libraries and community colleges along the coast.
Dan Allgaier, Tillamook County library director, told the board that Tillamook County, Driftwood (Lincoln City) and Newport had used a different system for more than a decade; reconciling systems and partners required a move to Koha, which the county has been implementing and intends to go live with on March 10. The IGA formalizes a consortium that includes Newport, Toledo, Siletz, Waldport, Lincoln City, Tillamook County, Lincoln County Library District, Oregon Coast Community College, Tillamook Bay Community College and Clatsop Community College, among others listed in the agreement.
Allgaier said shared circulation already occurs informally and that, in the prior year, Tillamook County patrons borrowed more than 28,000 items from the consortium and loaned more than 23,000 items to patrons in partner systems. Commissioners voiced strong support and the motion to approve the intergovernmental agreement passed by voice vote.
The IGA is intended to expand material-sharing and patron access across the coastal library network.
