Pratt County commissioners voted to adopt a written policy that allows retirees and their dependents to continue group health and dental benefits at the retirees' cost until they reach age 65.
A county staff member said the action formalizes the county’s existing practice under its Blue Cross Blue Shield plan and that Freedom Claims — the county's third-party administrator — requested the policy be placed in writing. "It's basically just putting our unwritten policy in writing," the staff member said.
The commission then approved a motion to enter a 10-minute executive session for attorney–client privilege to discuss the county’s administrative agreement with Freedom Claims and a matter described as "vacating county rep." After the executive session, commissioners returned to open session and a motion was made and seconded to come out of executive session "with no action taken," which passed on a recorded voice vote.
The record shows the retiree-benefits policy was adopted during the meeting; the executive-session discussion produced no reported action.
County staff said the written policy mirrors the county’s benefits practice and that retirees pay the full premium for continued coverage until they reach age 65; the meeting record does not show a change in county-paid retiree benefits.
