Local historical society asks Pratt County for $7,000 annual increase to cover rising insurance costs

Representatives of the Bridal County Historical Society told the Pratt County Commission they were asking for a $7,000 increase to annual county support, from $45,000 to $52,000, citing rising insurance costs.

Thad Henry, representing the Bridal County Historical Society, said the group had been receiving $45,000 per year for five years and last year requested a $7,000 increase that was not approved. "We are back asking for a $7,000 increase to take us to 52,000," Henry said. He described recent operating losses and said insurance premiums for the society rose by about $10,000 over five years.

Henry told commissioners the society receives about $8,000 annually from an endowment at the local community foundation and uses those funds for small improvement projects. He described a recent gas-line inspection and repair at the society building that cost roughly $8,000–$9,000 and was paid from their fund.
