Urban Renewal board approves $6,587 building improvement grant for downtown property

The Dallas Urban Renewal Agency Board of Directors on Feb. 18 approved a building improvement grant for a downtown property located at 131–147 Court Street in an amount up to $6,587.
Charlie Mitchell, the city’s Economic and Community Development Director, presented the request and said the project addresses a variety of utility and infrastructure upgrades inside an older commercial building, including redundant or outdated meters and irregular electrical and gas lines. Mitchell noted the staff report contained a typographical error on the grant amount and asked the board to consider the corrected amount when voting.
A motion to approve the building improvement grant (file number as stated in the motion) and to authorize the city manager to prepare the grant agreement passed unanimously. The record shows the board instructed the city manager to prepare the grant agreement and to proceed with the standard grant-approval process.
Mitchell said the grant is intended to help the property owner update utilities and clean up inconsistent systems behind many older downtown buildings; board members noted similar issues exist in other downtown properties.
