The Dallas City Council voted unanimously on Feb. 3 to adopt Resolution 3542, sending a ballot measure to the May 2025 election that would authorize up to $17,200,000 in general obligation bonds to finance a new police station, city staff said.
City staff told the council the resolution contains the legal language calling a measure election to submit to the city—s electors the question of contracting general obligation bonded indebtedness in an aggregate principal amount not to exceed $17,200,000, declaring intent to reimburse expenditures and related matters. The staff noted the resolution was prepared by bond counsel and reviewed by the city—s legal team.
There was no extended debate recorded on the council floor. The council asked no additional questions during the item and proceeded to a roll-call vote. Councilor Fitzgerald, Councilor Jansz, Councilor Schilling, Councilor Shane, Councilor Spivey, Councilor Verdon, Council President Briggs, Councilor Barrientos and Councilor Blosser each voted yes; the motion passed 9-0.
With the resolution approved, city staff said the next step is to refer the measure to the county so it will appear on the May 2025 ballot if all administrative steps are completed.
The resolution text shown to the council states that the bonds would finance capital costs associated with a police station; the resolution itself and the referral process were prepared by the city—s bond counsel and reviewed by city legal staff.
