Greeley board declares an adequate water year and authorizes rentals while protecting storage target

Greeley’s Water and Sewer Board voted April 14 to declare an adequate water year and to make surplus supplies available for rental while assuring target storage would not fall below 21,300 acre-feet.
Brian (water supply presenter) summarized mountain-snow and storage conditions, reporting that Northern Colorado snowpack and overall storage were near historical averages and that, under reasonable assumptions, Greeley’s storage remains well above the board’s April 1 emergency target. "We are looking to have about, you know, over 30,000 acre feet of storage across our reservoirs. This is well above the measures that we predict…" Brian said, and he recommended declaring an adequate water year and continuing to rent excess supplies while protecting the stated storage threshold.
A motion to approve staff’s recommendation — declaring an adequate water year, permitting rental of excess supplies, and ensuring target storage did not fall below 21,300 acre-feet — was moved, seconded and adopted by voice vote.
Board members and staff noted the region had entered the season with relatively full reservoirs and an overall average snowpack, while acknowledging some parts of the state show drier conditions. The vote allows staff to proceed with routine rental activity while maintaining the board’s stated storage safety floor.
