Board hears construction update: change orders, septic work and intercom upgrades across Bullitt County campuses

Architects and district staff provided a construction update to the Bullitt County Board of Education on work at Bullitt Central, Bullitt East and North Bullitt, describing several change orders, site revisions and systems work needed to complete athletics, fine arts and new physical science centers.

Kate Noble Ward and Sergio Kramer of the project team said punch-list work is underway at the Bullitt Central athletic facilities and that the contractor has submitted change orders to address additional netting at backstops, relocated bleacher banks and life‑safety items requested by the building inspector. "We had to add some additional netting at the back stops," the presenter said, and described the netting and other life‑safety work as items to keep people away from open construction areas.

Change orders and site work

Change order 21 addressed movement of bleacher banks and other site items; change order 22 was described as a North Bullitt package that included a sanitary revision (a credit for omitted piping), erosion control straw mats, ADA detectable warning pavers and added plaza concrete to expand spectator viewing between visitor dugouts. The team also described restoring a preexisting pitching wall, reroofing and adding a restroom and storage at the Bullitt East baseball clubhouse as part of an alternate that became larger than originally budgeted.

Septic and sanitary systems

District staff explained that a purchase order was needed for a septic lateral field at North Bullitt because the project team elected to revise a forced-main sanitary connection to a septic system in that location. Ray Walls Excavating, identified as a septic designer/installer certified by the Cabinet for Health and Family Services, prepared the septic design; the presenter noted pumps and tanks were already in place under a prior approval.

Intercoms, generators and schedule

The update covered the physical science centers at Bullitt East and Bullitt Central; the district is including intercom and life‑safety upgrades that will move several buildings onto a standardized system and is adding a backup generator and a new access road at Bullitt Central. The team said the Bullitt East fine arts addition is making progress and could be dried in and roofed within about a month; the contractor's current schedule suggested being out of that building by May 1 and a substantial completion target of July 1, 2026 for the larger project. The presenter said the field house contingency remains healthy and estimated the contingency at about $3,000,000 at that point in the project.

What the board will consider next

Staff said they will release bid documents for the BG‑2/BG‑3 specifications and expect to issue bids after board approval at the May meeting; the board will hold a special meeting on June 19 to consider contract awards when bids are returned and contracts can be prepared.
