Students honored for community service and winter sports achievements at Holmdel board meeting

Jordan Cohn, the Builders Club vice president, said the club focuses on community service and leadership: "We are the Kiwanis Builders Club ... we actually work together to help our community and support those families in need," Cohn said. Club members recounted projects this year including a sock drive for homeless shelters, a trunk-or-treat event at Bayonet Farms, a bake sale that raised $235 for Bridges at the Shore, assembling 152 holiday goodie bags, and a canned-food Super Bowl drive that collected 304 cans.
The students said upcoming activities include an April 2 cereal drive to benefit the Keyport food pantry and planned visits to a senior center and the 9/11 memorial. The Builders Club thanked the Holmdel Kiwanis, Bridges at the Shore, and the Keyport Food Pantry for support.
Separately, Superintendent Dr. Cascone and the athletics supervisor recognized winter-season achievements across fencing, track and field, swimming, basketball, wrestling, hockey and competitive cheer. Individual athletes named during the presentation included district and conference champions and performers who advanced to state-level competitions. Coaches and teams were publicly thanked; one coach and the hockey team were noted for winning the Shore Conference tournament and a sectional championship.
Board members and the superintendent praised the students, advisors and community volunteers for their service and athletic accomplishments. The recognitions were presented near the start of the business portion of the meeting.
Ending: The district encouraged families and community members to support upcoming student service drives and attend athletic events; dates and collection instructions for the cereal drive were announced by the students at the meeting.
