The North Dakota Public Service Commission on May 8 deemed complete Basin Electric Power Cooperative’s application for a certificate of site compatibility to construct a 1,490 megawatt combined-cycle gas turbine generator and associated facilities in Wheelock Township, Williams County, and issued a notice of filing and notice of public hearing.
Commissioner Jill Grinstead moved the action; the hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Central on Monday, June 30, 2025, at the Grand Williston Hotel and Conference Center in Williston. The PSC record notes the application was filed March 5, 2025, and that it proposes a baseload generation plant of 1,490 MW.
Commissioner Randy Christman commented that siting hearings have been rare in recent years for base-load generation; the PSC approved issuance of the notices by unanimous voice vote. The notice starts the public participation process under the site-compatibility rules for major generation projects.
