Cypress College Foundation presents Americana Awards update; Rob Johnson named an honoree

Howard Kummerman, executive director of the Cypress College Foundation, briefed the Cypress City Council on the foundation’s Americana Awards and its support for Cypress College students.
Kummerman said the Americana Awards is both an awards event and a fundraiser that supports scholarships, emergency assistance, and campus programs. He told the council the foundation provided more than $500,000 in scholarships and emergency assistance last year. Kummerman invited the council and residents to the Americana Awards ceremony scheduled for March 15 at the Anaheim Weston Resort. He introduced Rob Johnson, a long-time Cypress resident and former mayor who will be among the honorees.
Rob Johnson thanked the council and described in brief remarks how he has attended the event for many years and noted examples of scholarship recipients who benefited from foundation support. Kummerman said the event supports students’ transfers to four-year universities and workforce placement.
The presentation was informational; no council action was required.
