Diane Williams, chief executive officer of JBWS, told the Morris County Board of County Commissioners that the organization is marking Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month with outreach and a March youth conference at Drew University.
"February is domestic violence awareness month for teenagers. So it's teen dating violence awareness month every February. So tomorrow is wear orange day," Williams said. She told commissioners JBWS educated 11,825 young people in 2024 at middle schools, high schools and universities about healthy relationships and resources.
The report Williams left with commissioners lists program-level metrics and funding sources. "The federal grants make up 19% of JBWS's budget. JBWS is about 50% government funded," she said, adding that the organization supplements public funding with other sources to sustain services. Williams also noted she has shared grant details with county staff member Amy Archer.
Williams highlighted upcoming events and anniversaries: a youth conference at Drew University in March, JBWS's 50th anniversary next year and the 10th anniversary of the county-hosted Family Justice Center. She thanked commissioners for the county’s support of the Family Justice Center and asked for continued backing of the agency’s work.
Commissioners and staff offered brief thanks; no formal action or vote accompanied the presentation. Williams invited commissioners to attend the youth conference and said program- and staff-level details appear in the written impact report provided to the board.
The presentation occurred during the agenda’s public-facing portion; written comments were not submitted in advance and no members of the public spoke during the meeting.
