Canterbury Select Board accepts $120,000 offer for town parcel on Route 106

The Canterbury Select Board voted to accept an offer of $120,000 from local business owner Brian Magoon for a town-owned parcel identified as map 226, lot 2 along Route 106.

Board members approved the sale and attached a 90‑day period for the purchaser to obtain financing and close. The town’s tax card lists the parcel value at $138,500. At the meeting, board members said the property — which has been on the town inventory since the prior owner declined to keep it — is near recent self-storage development and that the buyer indicated he intends to use the site for equipment and vehicle storage.

“I think a $120,000 to the town for a gift is a pretty good exchange,” a Select Board member said during deliberations, noting the town collects taxes on properties in private ownership. The buyer asked for time to arrange financing; the board’s motion specified a 90‑day window to complete the purchase.

The board also approved routine financial manifests during the session. The accounts payable manifest — described during the meeting as $39,870.89 — was moved, seconded and approved. The payroll manifest of $60,711.36 was similarly approved.

Select Board members signed appointments and other noncontroversial administrative items before adjourning to a nonpublic executive session under RSA 91‑A provisions. No additional conditions to the property sale were recorded in the public motion.
