Canterbury board signs onto regional letter urging state education funding increase

Alex, who said his remarks reflected his personal views and not those of the Shaker Regional School Board, described the letter’s history: an initial 2021 version gathered roughly 80 local officials’ signatures, a 2023 iteration had about 150, and the then-current letter had roughly 432 signatures by late afternoon. Alex asked the board to consider signing before the committee met the following day.
Select Board members discussed the timing and the mechanics for signing. One board member moved to sign the letter from Makayla to the Senate Finance Committee; the motion was seconded and the board voted in favor. The board clerk/administrative assistant was asked to manage the electronic signature process so the town could be added as a signatory or individual members could sign.
At the time of the vote, the transcript record shows Canterbury and another local signatory (Brandy) already listed as having signed earlier in the year. One Select Board member said: “I would encourage I think signing it would be, you know, putting out the right case, especially for the town and and, you know, showing that we do care about our taxes, we care about education.” Ending
