Supervisors approve Warbler and Timber Avenue closures for culvert repairs and grant Alliant Energy utility permit

Franklin County supervisors approved temporary closures of Warbler Avenue (between 180th and 190th) and Timber Avenue (between 40th and 50th) for culvert construction and repair, and they approved a utility permit for Alliant Energy to cross Main Street and Coulter for gas work during the May 7 meeting.
The board moved and seconded both closure items and approved them by voice vote. One item on the agenda described the Warbler Avenue closure as tied to a culvert repair bid; supervisors approved Timber Avenue closure for culvert construction as well.
On the Alliant Energy permit, staff explained the county is responsible only for the center 22 feet of pavement where the utility will cross; towns or other jurisdictions will be responsible for maintaining the shoulder areas outside that center strip. A roads staff member told the board, “We're only responsible for the center 22 foot,” and staff said agreements with towns are in place for the remaining roadway widths.
The board approved the permit after confirming necessary paperwork has been submitted and after a motion and second. County roads staff also reported ongoing operational items: Martin Marietta is handling site safety and the county will run flagger training through LTAP next month. Supervisors asked staff to confirm signage and signage placement for affected closures and utility work.
