Allen County commissioners approve routine business, set minimum bid for county property sale

The Allen County Commissioners handled routine business and several formal actions during their Jan. 17 legislative session, approving minutes, claims, an appointment, and setting a floor price for a county property sale.

The commission approved the minutes of the Jan. 10, 2025 legislative session. Commissioners then approved claims submitted for the period including Jan. 7, 2025, in the amount of $5,197,373.47.

Commissioners appointed Lisa Starks to the Capital Improvement Board by motion and voice vote.

On a separate item, staff explained that the county seeks to sell 12 acres at 4315 Meyer Road (a parcel acquired via tax sale, partly in floodplain) and must follow a statutory public sale process under Indiana Code, including advertising and accepting bids over a set window. The county previously used the average of two appraisals as a minimum bid ($504,000) but received no offers; commissioners set a new minimum floor equal to the lower appraisal, $309,000, and directed staff to advertise the sale and begin the statutory process. Staff said advertising will start in the local newspaper and on the county website and that the statutory 60-day bidding window will be used once advertising and notice periods are satisfied.

Commissioners also approved a motion to waive the second reading where necessary for items on that day's legislative session. The session concluded with no public comments.

All routine items were approved by voice vote during the session; roll-call tallies were not recorded in the meeting transcript.
